Bill Ramos is a Democratic member of the Washington State Senate, representing the 5th Legislative District. He assumed office in January 2025, and his current term is set to end in January 2029.

Born and raised in East Oakland, California, Bill Ramos witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by underserved communities. He pursued higher education at Humboldt State University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Forest Sciences. His professional journey began with the U.S. Forest Service, where he held various leadership roles, including Director of Timber Management and Director of Ecosystem Management. In these roles, he led teams of scientists conducting environmental analyses of federal lands, showcasing his commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.

Ramos later transitioned to the U.S. Department of Transportation, where he worked as a Community Planner specializing in rural and tribal transit systems. As the Federal Tribal Liaison, he collaborated with numerous tribes across the Pacific Northwest and Alaska to enhance public transit on tribal lands. His dedication to improving infrastructure and accessibility has been a hallmark of his career.

In addition to his federal service, Ramos has been a small business owner since 1996, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit and understanding of local economic challenges. His political career began at the local level, serving on the Issaquah City Council from 2016 to 2018. During this time, he also contributed to various commissions, including the Economic Vitality Commission and the Human Services Commission.

As a state senator, Ramos has prioritized environmental protection, public safety reforms, and infrastructure development. He has been a vocal advocate for widening Highway 18 and securing funding for Highway 169, aiming to improve transportation and reduce congestion in his district. His legislative efforts also focus on affordable housing, reducing property taxes, and fostering industry partnerships to address climate change through carbon sequestration.
