Biography

Billy Beasley, whose full name is William M. Beasley, was born on March 19, 1940. He is an American politician from the state of Alabama and a member of the Democratic Party. He represents the 28th district in the Alabama Senate.

Beasley graduated from Auburn University in 1962. After graduation, he embarked on a professional career that included serving as the president of Pratts Station LLC and operating the Clayton Drug Company, Clio Drug Company, and Louisville Drug Store.

His political career began when he was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 1998. He served in the House of Representatives, representing District 84 from 1998 to 2010. After being consistently reelected, Beasley ran for the State Senate in 2010, and defeated fellow Democrat Johnny Ford. He succeeded Myron Penn, who did not seek reelection.

Beasley served as state Senate minority leader from 2017 to 2019. He considered running for Governor of Alabama in the 2014 election. His current term in the Alabama State Senate ends on November 4, 2026.

Beasley’s older brother is former Lieutenant Governor of Alabama, Jere Beasley. Billy Beasley is from Clayton, Alabama.
