Biography

Jack Kolbeck is a Republican member of the South Dakota House of Representatives, representing District 13. He assumed office on February 5, 2025, and his current term is set to end on January 12, 2027.

Born in McCook County, South Dakota, Jack Kolbeck has dedicated much of his life to public service and community involvement. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from South Dakota State University in 1974. Before entering politics, Kolbeck built a successful career in the malt beverage industry, working as the Key Accounts Manager for Beal Distributing since 2002. His professional experience has given him a strong understanding of business and economic issues, which he brings to his legislative work.

Kolbeck’s political career began in the South Dakota Senate, where he represented District 13 from 2017 to 2024. During his tenure in the Senate, he served on various committees, including the Appropriations Committee and the Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee. He also held the position of Majority Whip from 2023 to 2024, showcasing his leadership skills and commitment to his party’s values.

In February 2025, Kolbeck was appointed to the South Dakota House of Representatives to fill a vacancy left by Tony Venhuizen. As a legislator, he continues to focus on issues such as economic development, veterans’ affairs, and community well-being. His dedication to his constituents and his ability to work collaboratively with colleagues have earned him respect across party lines.

Outside of his political and professional life, Kolbeck is deeply involved in his community. He serves as a board member for several organizations, including the National Beer Distributors Association and Call to Freedom, a nonprofit focused on combating human trafficking. He is also the president of the 50-and-over Sioux Falls Men’s Slowpitch Softball League, reflecting his passion for sports and community engagement.

Jack Kolbeck has been married to his wife, Muriel, for over 46 years. Together, they have three children and ten grandchildren. The Kolbeck family has been residents of Sioux Falls for more than five decades and are active members of Central Church since 1978. Kolbeck’s strong family values and deep roots in his community continue to guide his work as a public servant.
