Bill Summary: HRES 1455 (118th Congress)

HRES 1455 is a resolution that outlines the procedural framework for the consideration of several bills and a joint resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives. The resolution facilitates the legislative process for the following key proposals:

  1. H.R. 3724: This bill amends the Higher Education Act of 1965 to prohibit recognized accrediting agencies from imposing political litmus tests or violating constitutional rights as a condition for accreditation of higher education institutions. This aims to protect academic freedom and institutional autonomy.

  2. H.R. 4790: This legislation seeks to amend federal securities laws regarding materiality in disclosure requirements and establishes the Public Company Advisory Committee to enhance corporate governance and transparency.

  3. H.R. 5179: This bill mandates the maintenance of country of origin markings for imported goods produced in the West Bank or Gaza, ensuring consumers are informed about the origins of these products.

  4. H.R. 5339: This legislation amends the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 to clarify the requirements for considering both pecuniary and non-pecuniary factors in investment decisions related to employee retirement plans.

  5. H.R. 5717: This bill stipulates that sanctuary jurisdictions providing benefits to undocumented aliens are ineligible for federal funds intended for such benefits, thereby influencing local immigration policies.

  6. H.R. 7909: This proposal amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to make aliens convicted of sex offenses or domestic violence inadmissible and deportable, tightening immigration enforcement.

  7. H.J. Res. 136: This joint resolution allows Congress to disapprove a rule by the Environmental Protection Agency concerning emissions standards for light-duty and medium-duty vehicles, reflecting legislative oversight of environmental regulations.

The latest action on HRES 1455 involved a motion to reconsider, which was laid on the table and agreed to without objection, indicating a procedural step towards advancing these legislative measures.
